Profiles: The Infamous Generation Gap

Most people know I really enjoy working with my colleague Rich. I once joked, "someday when I make it big, I'll tell them about my wonderfully crazed mentor, Rich..."

Rich:
Obvious child of the 60’s; General Counsel with tax specialty; murderously attentive to details; genius at everything he touches; native of New York and then moved to San Francisco; speaks “New Yawker” (complete with amusing venting tirades); multiple summa cum laude degrees in law, set lighting, and international relations; crazed aficionado of blues and music written by geniuses; set lighting design artist for the famous Bohemian Club of San Francisco; die-hard Deadhead; hilariously funny with whip-smart comebacks and one-liners; very politically-savvy; drinks 1 gallon of quality English black tea with milk every single day; eats chocolate chip cookies every night; 90% self-motivated; Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD); Baby Boomer work-til-you-die-of-a-heart-attack ethic; sleeps 4 hours a night; gets to office by 6:30am even though the Chief Operating Officer comes in at 11.

Christine: Obvious Gen-Xer; defies categorization in job title; feels murdered by details; smart but frustratingly lacking the Midas Touch; native of San Francisco, lived in 2 states and four countries; speaks 3 foreign languages moderately; scraped by in studies with various levels of (in)completion in psychology, classics, theology and international relations; loving aficionado of blues and broad musical taste; pretty decent backup harmony singer; prefers U2 to the Dead; notorious prankster; learning to be more politically-savvy; drinks 1 pint of quality English black tea with milk most days and warm milk most nights; 90% people-motivated; forgetful and distracted (ADD); GenX "keep it balanced, baby" work ethic; prefers to sleep 8 hours a night to avoid cartoon scenario below; would love to come to work at 11.

Our office team cracks up at this cartoon I found... it's us.

Sorry, Rich. I'm voting with Christine on this one.

Yeah! Gen-X solidarity. I knew you at least would be with me on the work ethic part. I'd LOVE to have an excuse to work 80%....
